Drivers and impacts of severe tricuspid regurgitation in atrial functional mitral regurgitation cases (IMAGE)
Caption
Tricuspid regurgitation (TR) is common in patients with atrial functional mitral regurgitation (AFMR). However, very few studies have explored its clinical characteristics, determinants, and prognostic impact on patients with AFMR. In a new study, researchers from Juntendo University tried to bridge this research gap. The study found that severe TR affects about one in seven to eight patients with AFMR and significantly increases their risk of death or hospitalization due to heart failure. These findings suggest that severe TR is associated with increased event rates, which warrants more research into this combined valvular disease, especially to explore effective therapeutic strategies.
