Phase composition and element exchange of the medium-entropy diboride and carbide system. (a) Rietveld structure refinement of dual-phase 50B/50C sample and (b) the schematic diagram of the metal element exchange between the (Zr1/3Hf1/3Ta1/3)B2 and (Zr1/3Hf1/3Ta1/3)C during the sintering process. Zr preferably dissolved in the (Zr, Hf, Ta)B2 phases, while Ta tended to dissolve into the (Zr, Hf, Ta)C phases.
