Ion collisions at BNL's STAR detector

An image of ion collisions captured by BNL’s STAR detector. The multicolored lines represent the tracks of particles created from the quarks and gluons released during the collision. With GPTune, ion collisions would produce more subatomic particles (more colored lines). These additional particles allow scientists to peer deeper into the fundamental behavior of nature.
