Chimera photosynthesis regulating gene origins (IMAGE) DOE/Oak Ridge National Laboratory Caption A team of scientists discovered a naturally occurring gene in the poplar tree that enhances photosynthetic activity and significantly boosts plant growth. The gene, Booster, contains DNA from two associated organisms found within the tree, and from a protein known as Rubisco that is essential to photosynthesis.
