The authors’ group recently reported coacervate forming amino-acid functionalized poly(S-alkyl-L-homocysteine)s (1a−d). In order to better understand how side-chain molecular structure affects coacervation, variants of 1a−d that include homocysteine homologues (2b), linker homologues (3c), and polypeptides with reversal of the side-chain charge (4a−d) were prepared.
