HIV drug Efavirenz alters lipid metabolism in the brain (IMAGE)
Caption
This is figure 4 from a paper in ACS Pharmacology & Translational Science that used a novel approach to show changes in lipid metabolism and protein expression as a result of treatment with the HIV drug Efavirenz. These images show the lipid distribution in treated (lower image in each pairing) and untreated tissue samples. The charts accompanying each pair of images quantify the intensity difference of a particular lipid between the treated and untreated samples. These findings, among others in the paper, may pave the way to developing drugs that mitigate brain toxicities associated with Efavirenz. (ACS Pharmacol. Transl. Sci. 2024, 7, 8, 2379-2390)
