Plimack, MD, MS, FASCO, is lead author of a paper in European Urology reporting on an analysis of specimens from the SWOG S1314 trial in localized muscle-invasive bladder cancer that finds that tumors from S1314 patients that had a mutation in any one of three DNA damage-repair genes were much more likely than other tumors to be eliminated by cisplatin-based chemotherapy, a finding that may help in identifying patients who can forego bladder removal surgery in favor of continued surveillance.
