When NLRP3 and ASC are present in mast cells, the microtubules within the activated mast cells become highly organised within 10 mins of activation with several strands emanating from the microtubule-organising center and radiating towards the cell surface providing “railtracks” on which granules are conveyed (top row). In contrast, within 10 min of activation, limited organised microtubules were observed in mast cells deficient in either NLRP3 ( Nlrp3-/- ) (middle row) or ASC (Asc-/-) (bottom row).
