Zebrafish (IMAGE) Howard Hughes Medical Institute Caption This image shows an adult zebrafish, distinguished by its vivid blue and yellow stripes. The dynamic coloring is a result of light interplay, where pigment cells provide the base colors by absorbing light, and iridophores, filled with tiny crystals, reflect light. Remarkably, these iridophores can alter their color from blue to yellow, allowing the zebrafish to change its appearance in response to various stimuli.
