A novel strategy of photocatalytic C(sp3)−H bond oxidation of various aryl ethers to esters using oxygen as the oxidant was developed. Mechanistic studies reveal the HAT process via photoredox catalytic chloride to chlorine radical generation. The Mes-10-phenyl-Acr+−BF4- photocatalyst exhibits excellent activity and a wide variety of Cl sources showing good promoting results.
