The researchers showed that the volume of carbon credits issued in the voluntary carbon market increased rapidly in the Americas, Africa & Middle East and the Asia-Pacific region. In particular, the Americas and Africa & Middle East regions dramatically increased the volume of carbon credits from 2009 to 2015, with similarly large increases coming from the Asia-Pacific region from 2006 to 2009, and 2015 to 2019.
