Illustration of a two-dimensional Coordinate-Wise Rank Transformation (CRT). (IMAGE)
Caption
Points 1, 2, 3, 4 originally had irregular ascending y-coordinates, which were transformed and rescaled to an arithmetic progression from -1 to 1 by coordinate-wise ranking (a special case of Coordinate-Wise Monotonic Transformations) and normalization. Points 2 and 4 originally shared the same x-coordinate, and they continued to do so after CRT.
