Chemically coated graphite particles with a layer of electrically insulating silica (IMAGE)

The scientists chemically coated each graphite particle with a layer of electrically insulating silica. Polyethylene glycol (PEG) helps silica bind to the surface of the graphite. The coated graphite particles are mixed with wax and shaped into insulating diamagnetic slabs.
