Baltic grey seal (IMAGE) University of Gothenburg Caption The grey seal in the Baltic Sea was highly endangered, at the end of the 1970s there were only 5,000 animals left out of the original 90,000. Since then, the seal population has recovered and today amounts to a total of about 55,000 animals. But now it may again be threatened if licensed hunting is not coordinated between the countries.
