Chimeric antigen receptor T (CAR-T) cell therapy effectively treats hematological tumors but struggles due to metabolic challenges in the tumor microenvironment. Tumor cells disrupt metabolic processes and compete with T cells for nutrients, suppressing immune response. A Chinese Medical Journal article discusses these challenges and proposes innovative strategies to enhance CAR-T cell efficacy by targeting metabolism. Improving mitochondrial metabolism can boost CAR-T cell activity, as depicted in the accompanying figure.
