Researchers elucidate the cross-species genomic interactions between Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) and host cells.

EBV interacts at specific locations within the B compartment of the host chromatin structure and hijacks gene enhancers. The activation of enhancers activates the expression of PLA2G4A, PTGS2, and CITED2, which leads to uncontrolled cell proliferation.
