Gold nanoparticles supported on silica are coated with monolayer LDH nanosheets and calcined to produce an ultra-thin layer of mixed metal oxide. The gold and MMO work together to realize enhanced catalytic performance. (inset) Transmission electron microscopy image of the MMO overlayer.
