UC Davis Establishes Bird Flight Research Center (IMAGE)
Caption
Assistant Professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering Christina Harvey (front row, right) and Professor Michelle Hawkins, director of the California Raptor Center at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine (front, left), are establishing a new center for bird flight research with a grant from the U.S. Department of Defense. The center will use high speed video and photogrammetry to image and model birds of prey in flight. The research will influence design of uncrewed aerial systems (drones) and aid in rehabilitation of injured birds. Back row: Graduate student Francisco Jackson, postdoctoral researcher Alfonso Martinez and graduate student Kaleb Bordner.
