Role of E-cadherin molecule as cell adhesion molecule and tumour suppressor gene. (IMAGE)
Caption
Mutation of CDH1 gene results in dysfunction of E-cadherin and release of β-catenin to the cytoplasm. Wnt protein binds to cell surface frizzled receptor and leads to translocation of β-catenin from the cytoplasm to the nucleus. β-catenin promotes transcription of target genes which include C-MYC, an oncogene that promotes cell growth and cell proliferation (created by BioRender.com).
