Sensory pathways in Drosophila to detect and avoid 2MT are shown. Flies escape from 2MT through olfactory, taste, and nociceptive sensory pathways. This study identified that TRPA1 expressed in taste and nociceptive sensory neurons play a major role in 2MT-induced aversive behaviors. Evaporated 2MT is also detected by ORs in olfactory pathway.
