Saito Humanized Mouse Visual Abstract (IMAGE) Kobe University Caption Currently developed cancer immunotherapies modify the interaction of cancer cells and the immune system, making drug testing targeting human cancer outside of clinical trials difficult. Kobe University immuno-oncologist SAITO Yasuyuki and his team developed a mouse model with a humanized immune system. With this they successfully tested a new therapeutic approach in which immune cells that protect cancer cells get activated to attack them, by disabling the immune cells’ recognition system for cells belonging to the own body.
