Both the Co meso-tetraphenyl porphyrin catalyst and the alcohol reactant can be gathered on the surface of mono-(6-mercapto-6-deoxy)-β-cyclodextrin-decorated CdS nanocrystals via bidirectional host-guest interactions, leading to efficient CO2 reduction coupled with organic oxidation in aqueous solution due to facilitated electron/hole extraction from CdS nanocrystals.
