Although DNA methylation is essential for numerous activities within cells, aberrant methylation can have grave consequences. Researchers have found that aberrant methylation could act as a marker for predicting the risk of gastric cancer, especially when combined with information about a patient’s lifestyle, such as tobacco and alcohol consumption habits.
