Cold-water geyser

The cold-water geyser near Andernach, on the Rhine (in Germany), occurs because carbon dioxide rises up from inside the Earth. It is at such places inside the Earth that researchers want to find microorganisms which prefer, or even need, extremely high concentrations of carbon dioxide.
