Drinking while hovering takes more time and energy, while landing and being still is quicker and requires much less effort.
In this video, the bumblebee tries to drink from the vertical flower. If the nectar reward on the vertical flowers is not worth spending the extra time to collect, bumblebees will give up and forage from the horizontal flowers instead.
