What's going on beneath the surface of the Long Valley Caldera, the site of a massive supervolcano eruption 760,000 years ago? A new study uses seismic waves to image the underground environment in the region and finds that the magma chamber is cooling off. However, earthquakes may still result from the gases and fluids released from the magma's crystallization.
