Communication professor Charee Thompson and graduate students Sara Babu and Shana Makos co-wrote a study that explored the ways in which women with chronic medical problems labor to establish credibility with their health care providers. The team developed a grounded theory of credibility work, which they said represents a distinct form of labor that adds to patients’ burden of being ill.
